Probiotics and Morgellons Disease: A Gut-Friendly Approach

Hey there! Dealing with Morgellons disease can be a real challenge, and sometimes, it feels like there’s no end to the mental fatigue, itching, and other symptoms. But did you know that your gut might hold the key to feeling better? Yup, we’re talking about probiotics, those friendly bacteria that can help your gut get back on track and potentially make living with Morgellons disease much more manageable.

Morgellons disease is caused by a bacteria. This bacteria primarily lives in your gut where it creates an imbalance. By consuming probiotics regularly, it helps to crowd out this bad bacteria which in turn lessens or rids you of your symptoms. One thing that makes Morgellons difficult to treat is that this bacteria has the ability to reproduce at a rapid rate in the right conditions. So we want to create the wrong conditions for this bacteria to reproduce!

What Morgellons Does to Your Gut

First things first, Morgellons disease can really mess with your gut. It disrupts the balance of your gut bacteria, which can lead to all sorts of issues. You might experience digestive problems, mood swings, and even a weakened immune system in addition to all of the crazy things going on with your skin. So, what can you do to restore some order in there? Enter probiotics!

Your Gut: More Than Just Digestion

Your gut is like your body’s second brain. It has a massive impact on your overall health, from your immune system to nutrient absorption and even your mood. So, when Morgellons disease throws your gut microbiome out of whack, it’s not just your digestion that suffers – it’s your whole body and your skin!

Probiotics to the Rescue

Probiotics are live microorganisms that can do wonders for your gut. I have come across numerous studies on skin conditions such as dermatitis, psoriasis and eczema. In each of these studies, probiotics are proven to be effective at treating these conditions. While I have yet to see research on using probiotics for Morgellons disease, they have the potential to help in a few key ways:

  1. Boosting Your Immunity: Probiotics can give your immune system a little nudge in the right direction, which might help your body fight off the bacteria that’s causing your Morgellons disease.
  2. Calming Inflammation: Morgellons disease often leads to inflammation throughout your body. Probiotics can help dial that down, which is a big plus for Morgellons sufferers.
  3. Taming Troublesome Symptoms: That awful skin crawling feeling that’s usually worse at night. Probiotics can bring that to a halt immediately! Your gut and skin are connected via the gut-skin axis. It’s because of this connection that you feel the Morgellons symptoms on your skin. It’s also because of this connection that probiotics are so effective!

Picking the Right Probiotic

Not all probiotics are created equal. When you’re looking for probiotics to help with Morgellons disease, here are a few types to keep in mind:

  • Lactobacillus: This one is all about supporting digestion and maintaining a balanced gut. And most importantly, lactic acid produced by Lactobacillus bacteria can create an acidic environment in the gut that inhibits the growth of pathogenic bacteria.
  • Bifidobacterium: Helps keep your gut microbiome in good shape and supports your immune system. Bifidobacterium species are anaerobic, meaning they thrive in environments with little to no oxygen. This allows them to colonize the lower part of the digestive tract, particularly the colon.
  • Saccharomyces boulardii: Once you try these, this yeast-based probiotic might be your new best friend. S. boulardii can help balance the gut microbiota by inhibiting the growth of harmful bacteria and promoting the growth of beneficial bacteria, including various Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium species.

More Tips

To really get the most bang for your buck, I recommend that you consume probiotics or a probiotic rich food at least two to four times a day. And if you’re not aware of what probiotic rich food I recommend, then take a look at this!

Don’t be overly concerned about taking in a massive CFU count but do try to focus on consistently taking probiotics two to four times each and every day. And if all this “CFU” talk has you lost then be sure to go back and read here.

And… Not all brands are created equal! The top brands I recommend and that I have seen people have the most success with are:

  • Now Probiotic-10  25 Billion – this brand contains both Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium strains
  • Pure Saccharomyces 10B

Wrap-Up

Living with Morgellons disease is no picnic, but probiotics might just offer some relief. They can help support your immune system, ease inflammation, and tackle those pesky symptoms. Just remember, there’s no one-size-fits-all approach so keep an open mind. Here’s to feeling a little better, one gut-friendly bacteria at a time!
